Producing the best mobile apps for the UW experience

Mobile UW for the mobile web

m.wisc.edu is a web version of Mobile UW that will run on any device that can connect to the Internet, including iPhones and iPod touches, Android phones, Blackberrys, Windows Mobile phones and other handheld devices.

While m.wisc.edu offers much of the same content and features that the native iOS and Android apps offer, it also offers some new features that are not yet available in the native apps:

Bookmark bus stops: Save the bus stops you frequent so you can quickly access scheduled and real bus data for them.

Pan for bus stops: After you do a search for nearby bus stops, you can begin panning and zooming the map. As you do so, bus stops all around the Metro service area will appear on the map. Selecting one will bring up scheduled and realtime bus arrival info for that stop.

UW Libraries: A featured link to UW Libraries’ new mobile web site, which features library hours and catalog search

Customize your home menu: Rearrange or add/remove menu items to suit your needs.

Bookmarks and direct links: Because m.wisc.edu is a website, you can bookmark any page within it in your phone’s browser. You can also link to any part of m.wisc.edu from another website.

Directory lookup improvement: If your directory search matches a single record, you’ll be taken right to that record’s detail view.

Thumbnail images in news listings: A minor enhancement we realize, but news listings with thumbnail images look snazzy!

Let us know if you like any of these features, and we’ll put them in the queue for future versions of the native apps.

Supported devices

m.wisc.edu has been tested on the following devices:

  • iPhones
  • Android phones
  • Blackberrys
  • Windows Mobile
  • (Note: depending on the capabilities of your device, you may get a subset of features and/or an alternate presentation than you will see on a full-featured phone such as iPhone or Android.)

While any device that connects to the internet should be able to access m.wisc.edu, testing all of them is not possible. If you experience problems or have suggestions for improvements, please email mobileweb@mobile.wisc.edu
